Summary This study investigates family involvement and culturally informed social work in Native American communities. The was conducted communities Montana, USA. Twenty-three professionals participated qualitative interviews. Analyses draw on theory of historical trauma indigenous social. Throughout the study, methodology has been a central principle. Findings Among workers, there is common understanding that should involve community if it to be informed. Social talk as “common sense.” For interviewed, following tenets are all sense”: (1) belonging important aspects culture; 2) oppression colonization had negative impact family, community, tribal relations; (3) an obligation restore relations. Application responsibility connect culture, trauma, resolution trauma. Furthermore, plays core part restoration resilience processes, healing caused by colonization. Hence, order provide competent care, practices serving clients community. Mainstream does not sufficiently build ideological foundation for qualitatively good work. We argue curricula impacting could benefit from experience knowledge these workers.
